You Have the Choice

Rather than believing we can’t overcome a certain conditioned way of acting, it is more accurate to admit we are choosing to act in this way. This gives us a more realistic view of our situation. If, for example, we are dealing with pride, we can choose to honor or appreciate others rather than try to attract attention to ourselves. No one is telling us we have to be proud or forcing us to depreciate others. Of course, it may feel like our mind is forcing us to act this way, that we are helpless in overcoming the power of our habitual paradigms. But as simple as it sounds, we can choose not listen to our mind. If you allow yourself to go with the pushing and pulling of your mind and senses, you will end up unhappy (and do a lot of things you later regret). God has given us the free will to choose. So although it sometimes feels as if we really don't have a choice, we always do. We, the soul, are above the mind and senses, so we can choose to not be slaves to their dictates. What this boils down to is that the real obstacle, the biggest obstacle, is simply ourselves. When we give in, we are to blame. So why do we keep acting the same way over and over again? The mind is choosing for us; it is choosing the same way it has chosen for countless lifetimes. And we are not saying anything. The mind is on automatic pilot and unless we interrupt its patterns, nothing changes. So not choosing to change is a choice to keep things as they are [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]
